As America is caught up in who Obama will choose for a running mate, and when exactly will he announce, The Bear is flexing it’s cowboy muscles, staying in Georgia, scooping up Georgian troops and, somehow believes that they had the right to stay in the “buffer zone” as they reject the UNSC resolution.
The draft text called on Russia to pull back its forces to the positions held before the current conflict.
But Russia says the truce allows its troops to stay in a buffer zone on the Georgia side of South Ossetia’s border.
Moscow says it is withdrawing its forces from Georgia. An official in the port of Poti said Russians had left.
Russian forces seized the port on Tuesday. But Adam Middleton, the port director, told the BBC Russian troops blew up a naval vessel and took military equipment before withdrawing on Wednesday.
If you thought the war in Afghanistan was over, you’d guess wrong — this is one of those smoldering wars — it keeps on going and it is difficult to end. (Well, I’d say it’s hard to end when Bush kept changing the mission: OBL, liberate the women, get rid of the Taliban, etc.) You should be comforted in knowing [/sarcasm]that another 12,000-15,000 troops will be leaving our shores heading to Afghanistan, perhaps by the end of this year.
Back on our shores, do you remember when Bush relaxed the amount arsenic allowed in drinking water?
President Bush is leading a strategic assault on the environment after he announced plans to rescind a Clinton-era regulation limiting the amount of arsenic allowed in drinking water, a Democratic governor said Saturday.
[...]The current standard, set in 1942, allows a maximum of 50 parts per billion. Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency recommended reducing that to 5 parts per billion as demanded by many environmentalists, but President Clinton directed that the standard be set at 10 parts per billion.
The Bush administration says it will withdraw the Clinton standard, which would have taken effect later this year.
To my knowledge Bush’s allowance of more arsenic in your drinking water has never been rescinded. Now,scientists (that bad word) think arsenic may be a cause of Type 2 diabetes.
A new analysis of government data is the first to link low-level arsenic exposure, possibly from drinking water, with type 2 diabetes, researchers say.
The study’s limitations make more research necessary. And public water systems were on their way to meeting tougher U.S. arsenic standards as the data were collected.
Still, the analysis of 788 adults’ medical tests found a nearly fourfold increase in the risk of diabetes in people with low arsenic concentrations in their urine compared with people with even lower levels.
Research outside the United States has linked high levels of arsenic in drinking water with diabetes. It’s the link at low levels that’s new.
Finally, if you really can’t be bothered about the news, and are thoroughly entrenched in the American Idolization of the Presidency, Michael Moore wrote a compelling open letter on who would make the best VP choice.
Barack Obama selected you to head up his search for a vice presidential candidate. It appears we may be just days (hours?) away from learning who that choice will be.
The media is reporting that Senator Obama has narrowed his alternatives to three men: Joe Biden, Evan Bayh and Tim Kaine. They’re all decent fellows, but they are far from the core of what the Obama campaign has been about: Change. Real change. Out with the old. And don’t invade countries that pose no threat to us.
[...]What Obama needs is a vice presidential candidate who is NOT a professional politician, but someone who is well-known and beloved by people across the political spectrum; someone who, like Obama, spoke out against the war; someone who has a good and generous heart, who will be cheered by the rest of the world; someone whom we’ve known and loved and admired all our lives and who has dedicated her life to public service and to the greater good for all.
That person, Caroline, is you.
I cannot think of a more winning ticket than one that reads: “OBAMA-KENNEDY.”
Now, Caroline Kennedy is someone I could get behind. She has a strong knowledge of the US Constitution, a strong supporter of woman’s rights, and a strong supporter of human rights. Having Caroline Kennedy as VP would definitely mobilize the party towards unity.

I think Caroline Kennedy is a sleeper. You are right there is too much media hype on the “three men”. There’s got to be something up Barack Obama’s sleeves. People wont be shocked, but its just too easy that the media can speculate and narrow it down.
