n local and statewide election news, yesterday was TN’s primary/general election for a number of seats. One of the most nasty races took place in TN’s 9th district, Steve Cohen v Nikki Tinker for US Representative, which Cohen won handily.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) overwhelmingly defeated attorney Nikki Tinker in a racially-charged Democratic primary in Memphis that received national attention.
With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Cohen leads Tinker by a 60-point margin – 79 to 19 percent. The AP has called the race for Cohen.
While this speaks well for those on the western end of the state, the eastern end of the state remains mired in SOS (Same ‘Ole Shit) politics (read the comments). The nation may not have Tinker to poke fun at, but the sleepy folks in Knox County gave the nation another Campfield rerun.
Campfield passed no bills during the General Assembly’s last session but has earned a reputation over the years for stirring up controversy with some of his proposals for legislation. Some of those bills included a proposal to let some fathers cut off child-support payments, the relaxation of gun bans on college and university campuses and an effort to bar discussions of homosexuality from any students younger than high-school age.
Campfield said the Democrats controlling the state House blocked his bills. He also made the news in 2005 when he tried to become the first white member of the Legislative Black Caucus.
The klown, who has not done anything to benefit his district, and used excuses for his own misbehavior, won by a measly 491 votes. And as there are no Dem. challengers, this klown goes on to the TN General Assembly for his third term. How fucking pathetic is that?
During the next few months, Sen. Lamarr! (I took money from Sen Stevens and I’m not giving it back) Alexander will have a challenger, Bob Tuke. This could be an interesting challenge.
I will try to do a better job at the local/statewide races as the campaigns get going.
