With Edwards dropping out, question now becomes who to support.
Edwards has told top advisers about his decision. It is expected he will announce it in a speech at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday in New Orleans, Louisiana.
An Edwards aide said the candidate was not getting the media attention he needed to get his message out and win delegates, especially with races coming up in 22 states next Tuesday.
Edwards has amassed 26 delegates for the Democratic nomination.
Campaign money was not an issue, the aide said.
Neither Hillary nor Obama, as I see it, have the mettle or the wherewithal to be my chosen representative of the United States.
A top Edwards aide said the former senator contacted Obama and Clinton on Tuesday, telling them he was considering dropping out of the race and asking them to make poverty a top issue of their campaigns and — if either reaches the White House — a central part of their administration.
Both candidates agreed, the aide said.
Agreeing and doing are two VASTLY different things. And I don’t see either of the remaining candidates working as hard for the low and middle income people as did John.
Personally, I feel John is making a huge mistake by dropping out before super-duper Tuesday. On the other hand, I think he would make an awesome ambassador for the poor and disadvantaged and keep any administration on their toes.

I do too; we had people here who were going to go to the caucus on Tuesday. Christ, my sister and her best friend are Mormons and are John Edwards supporters. They are soo bummed. No other candidate looks good to them or me for that matter.
Wordsmith, I’m at a loss right now. I wish people would still caucus for him (in caucus states) or vote for him on super-duper Tuesday, if for no other reason to send a message to the status-quo candidates picked by the media and pundits.
still unmoored by this. spouse and i have to think/talk more about what to do on tuesday here in new york. yes, message-sending, that’s what we’d hoped edwards was doing for us. perhaps he has already done some of this though the DNC is awfully impervious to anything but its own narrow vision.
He’s still on the ballot in NJ, even if he isn’t campaigning. I’m either voting for him or writing in Al Gore.
I too am seriously disappointed at Mr. Edwards’ decision to suspend his candidacy at this time, more than 1.5 months before I even get a chance to vote. These early primaries are shameful & undemocratic, we shouldn’t be picking our nominee until early fall! That said, I will most likely vote for him if his name is still on the ballot and come November, I will vote for whoever is the Democratic nominee.
DBK, I already voted for Edwards last week (we have early voting), and can say that he’s still on the ballot here in TN. I have no idea what I’ll do come November.
Unfortunately, not enough people will vote for him now that he has officially dropped out. Had he hung on until Super Tuesday was over, he might have picked up enough delegates to either continue or at least be the power broker at the convention, which is what I was rooting for.
I completely agree, DBK. I’m hearing a bunch of rumors about why he dropped out now, but nothing I can find from a credible source, but the big question remains, why now?
