Bridget takes on David Cohen’s meme: Headlines for 2008. While I am not a feminist law professor, I decided I wanted to play along.
Headline I’m most fearful of seeing in 2008:Bush enacts martial law, US presidential elections canceled
Headline I most want to see in 2008: FACE Statute is strengthened and violators prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
Headline I most expect to see in 2008:This is a tie between Income gap widening and Homelessness increasing
Headline I least expect to see in 2008:Maternal Mortality rates decrease in the US
I’m going to tag Christian Feminist, Brilliant Jill, Kitty, ShortWoman, Rachel, and Naomi, but I hope you all play along.

FACE is, not to put too fine a point on it, political bullshit. I say this because there is no action listed in the statute that isn’t covered by other existent laws. It’s pure politics, with no legal merit.
Don’t think that by my saying this that I’m anti-abortion, because that would be incorrect. I just hate “special treatment” laws that are based solely on political positioning instead of needed jurisprudence.

Alright, I’m in.
Sorry jonolan, but since the FACE statute was put in place, violence against women’s clinics has dropped. Violence against women’s clinic workers has dropped.
If you look at the cases of violence against women’s clinics since Roe v Wade, there are a huge amount that are still “unsolved”. In fact, every case of extreme violence since 2000 remains open.
Thus, FACE is not only needed, it needs to be used by state AG’s.
I disagree strongly. No “new” crimes were committed against these abortion centers, only existent crimes. The push should be to enforce the existing applicable laws instead of creating new one that give special privilege to certain places or groups.
