And people think that Hollywood is liberal!?! Hah!
Perhaps Mr. Duvall could be useful rounding up more endorsements for Mr. Giuliani from Hollywood. He could always try doing it the Tom Hagen way: “Mr. Giuliani never asks a second favor once he’s refused the first, understood?”
Meanwhile Fred “lawn order” Thompson did finally announce, from Jay Leno’s couch.
After months of false starts, staff shake-ups, and questions about the seriousness of his intention to run for president, Fred D. Thompson rolled out his candidacy last night with a two-pronged entry into the race that sought to take the spotlight from his Republican opponents as they squared off in a debate.
Choosing “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” to declare “I’m running for president of the United States,” Mr. Thompson said, “I don’t think people are going to say, ‘That guy would make a very good president, but he just didn’t get in soon enough.’ ”
But, I loved this bit from the same article:
In choosing took announce his candidacy on the couch next to the jovial Mr. Leno, Mr. Thompson was following the example of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who chose that forum to declare his candidacy for governor of California.
For Thompson, Leno’s couch and his website are far more safe forums than out in the public sphere. Sounds awfully similar to Bush being protected from the “hordes.”
Gotta love it.

I saw some of Thompson on CNN today. I could only roll my eyes at his playing up the good old boy routine. As if we have not had enough of that from Bush.
I got caught onto a conservatives e-list — all about why Freddie isn’t conservative enough. It’s rather amusing to read. (read at your own risk

He’s out and out stated he’s a pretender, the rented red truck for pretenses, and let’s not forget the years lobbying. I realize I’m preaching to the choir, but it still amazes me at how many people around here just “love” Freddie — a pretender is literally the great white hope, for a number of folks around these parts.
I don’t know if I should just let these conservative take care of ousting Freddie, or if liberals and conservative should band together on this. In all honesty, I’d actually like to see liberals/progressives work with conservatives to send Freddie packing to the 15th century. Then again, I have some real doubts he’ll make it past the primaries (unless the media plays him up and attacks dems as they did Gore)
The bottom line is, he his a good ole boy as a Washington insider, not as a Tennessean.
I am quite sure you have seen Keith Olbermann’s comment about Bush admitting about “playing” the war as in pretending and, what the media did to poor Al Gore. It reminds me of the pre-academy award red carpet shows. I once watched Joan Rivers talk to an actress who said something about her dress’s designer. They literally had the conversation about how they must pretend and name drop. So, they are telling us in our face that they are pretending and at the same time they are sticking to us by pretending. It is like wink, wink, wink……yet, everyone is numb and nothing changes.
Ahh, the normalization of idiocy.
