Actually, I think that statement should be amended just a bit. I don’t think the GOP actually hates all children, just the children of the poor or those that fell on hard times and need a helping hand. Otherwise, why would they be fighting so hard to block expansion of SCHIP?
Republican leaders of the House and Senate on Tuesday attacked proposals that call for a major expansion of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, to be financed with higher tobacco taxes.
“Republicans will fight these proposals,” said the House Republican leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio.
In an unexpected turn of events, the top two Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Trent Lott of Mississippi, said they opposed a bipartisan bill that the Senate Finance Committee approved last week and would offer an alternative on the Senate floor.
Trent Lott went on record last week as opposing this bill. But, each and every repug that opposes this bill should be targeted by dems, and called out to defend why they hate children in families that need help. Saying that this bill will move more people to government-run insurance is not a sufficient answer. It neglects the fact that private insurance is failing people miserably.

Hmmm, maybe Democrats hate old people.
Top House Republicans objected to the House Democrats’ plan to finance their proposals, with increases in tobacco taxes and cuts in subsidies for private health plans serving older Americans on Medicare.
Except those subsidies should have been given directly to Medicare instead of the private insurers. Check it out!
I’m not sure expansion of funding should be done before the current funding mechanism is repaired. Currently, the law allows states to decide whether to use the money they receive under SCHIP should be used as intended or be funneled in to their current Medicaid budget. The vast majority of states have just added the money to their Medicaid funds. Why not remove this option and require states to only use the money for what it was intended for first?
