Robin Toner has an article in today’s NY Times on how the presidential candidates want to overhaul our current health care system. Except, none of the candidates, dem or repub, is really changing a dam thing, just expanding or retooling an already failing system, with the exception of Kucinich and Gravel.
Every single one of the republicans that have addressed health care, want to expand the current market-based system that is failing the people so miserably. The only people that are enjoying the “success” of a market-based system are the for-profit hospitals, doctors groups, insurance companies, pharmaceuticals and Wall Street.
And, Fred “The Mole” Thompson is no better, actually he’s worse than the other repubs. He has no stance, instead he just promotes fearmongering.
Let’s go back to the people that are actually trying to change things, making sure all are getting health care and affordable health care at that, which, sadly, Toner completely ignores. Nope, it’s far more convenient for Toner to focus on the current front-runners, than actually addressing a plan that will cover everyone, and not cost individuals an arm and a leg, and will not break our government.
HR 676, the Conyers-Kucinich bill, is currently winding it’s way through congress. There are, as of this morning, 75 co-sponsors of this bill. I see that only one of TN’s representatives have signed on, Steve Cohen. Come on, you congresscritters, do something meaningful for the people you represent, sign on to this bill. Make a damn statement that you will no longer let the people you represent suffer from a failed market-based system.
Hope on over, write your congresscritter and urge them to support real changes to health care that will make a difference to you.
