Doctors, even non-practicing doctors that keep their medical license current, are supposed to keep up to date through continuing education credits. It seems that Frist, who has unillustriously misused his medical degree to make outrageous and false diagnosis on the senate floor, has failed to keep up with Tennessee’s requirments of continuing education.
The Senate majority leader, Bill Frist of Tennessee, did not meet all the requirements needed to keep his
medical license active even though he gave paperwork to Tennessee
officials indicating that he had, his office acknowledged Tuesday.Tennessee requires its licensed physicians to complete 40 hours of
continuing medical education every two years. Mr. Frist, a heart-lung
surgeon, submitted a license renewal with the Tennessee Health
Department stating he had fulfilled that requirement.
Now, when that license renewal form arrived, it specified on it the necessary hours of continuing education needed. Not to mention that these requirements were put in place 4 years ago. Frists’s office is justifying the lack of education credits to "he didn’t know" because the change occurred after he came to the senate.
Mr. Lehigh said the senator might have been unaware of the change.
How lame is this excuse, I ask you. Practicing or not, to keep your license current, you need to keep up with continuing education requirements, which includes state changes to those requirements.
What really get’s me, is the implication that Frist will have special treatment from the TN Board of Medical Examiners over other doctors. Note these two sentences:
Responding Tuesday to repeated requests from The Associated Press, a
Frist spokesman said the senator had contacted the Tennessee Board of
Medical Examiners and was working to clear up the problem.
[and]
Tennessee law states that doctors who fail to do their continuing medical education ”will be subject to disciplinary action.”
My question to the TN Board of Medical Examiners is are they giving the same considerations to other non-practicing doctors or is Frist getting special treatment?
